Dalma

Support

Dalma is a walking compass. A needle points at where you are going, and the rest is up to you.

Questions, a bug, or a place the map gets wrong: write to alex.bricken@icloud.com. Say which iPhone and iOS version you have, and what you expected to happen.

Common questions

The needle looks off. Phones read north from a magnetometer, and steel, cars and tall buildings pull at it. The wide wedge around the needle shows how unsure it is. Swing the phone through a figure of eight and it settles. When it can't tell, Dalma says Which way is north? rather than guess.

It won't let me keep a place. A place joins the logbook only from inside 50 m, and your distance plus the GPS error has to fit inside that. Walk a little closer, or wait for a better fix, and tap I'm here again.

Where are the maps? New York City comes with the app. London and San Francisco download from Apple the first time you ask, and work without a signal after that. The compass, the logbook and Just a direction work anywhere.

Why no streets? On purpose. Dalma gives straight-line distance and a direction you can walk, and leaves the way to you.

Apple Watch. Set a bearing on your iPhone, and the watch points the way with its own compass. It asks for approximate location only to find true north.
