Tapeless Support

Tapeless converts .MOD/.TOD footage from 2000s-era camcorders (JVC, Canon, Panasonic) into standard video, saved to your Photos library with the original recording dates.

Getting your footage onto the iPhone

1. Put your camcorder’s SD card in a card reader that fits your iPhone (USB-C or Lightning), or copy the card’s contents to iCloud Drive / AirDrop them from a computer.
2. In Tapeless, tap Scan folder… and select the card (or the folder you copied). Tapeless finds the SD_VIDEO structure and every clip on its own.
3. Select clips and tap Convert. Converted video lands in Photos, in a “Tapeless” album, dated when it was filmed.

Common questions

Why do my clips show the right date? Camcorders wrote a small .MOI sidecar file next to each clip with the exact recording time. Tapeless reads it and stamps the converted video’s Photos date with it.

What’s the date stamp toggle? It burns the recording date and time into the corner of the picture, white VCR lettering, like a real videotape. It’s permanent for that converted file — convert again with it off for a clean copy.

What’s deinterlacing? Old camcorders recorded each frame in two halves; modern screens show whole frames, which makes motion look jagged (“combing”). Tapeless rebuilds clean frames. Leave it on.

A clip won’t convert. Make sure the file ends in .MOD or .TOD and came from the camcorder untouched. If a file is truncated (a recording cut off by a dead battery), Tapeless converts what’s readable.
